A little Southern humor —- Jeanne Robertson
If you feel like shopping today, might I point you to the Ladies Making Comics aStore? If you don’t or just want a reminder that not everyone’s in a capitalist frenzy, here’s a few comics that have a social conscience by ladies. I’ve linked to WorldCat so you might find them in a local library….
I’m hardly a trend-setter or style-maker, but I do get asked for shopping recommendations now & then.
So I thought I’d compile a short list of my favorites. Enjoy!
Adagio Teas Possibly the best teas I’ve tasted (& I’ve tasted quite a few!). Great service, a wide-range of teas & a determination to improve the quality of life for the tea farmers.
Vosges Chocolate My favorite chocolate company, hands down. incredible flavors, the best cocoa available. And responsible for my personal favorite: the Barcelona Bar.
Organic Bouquet Eco-friendly company. Their flowers are grown without the use of harmful chemicals & last a lot longer. They promote environmental, social & economic sustainability.
King Arthur Flour Employee-owned & a source for amazing baking products & supplies, as well some of the best recipes on the ‘Net.
Think Geek Some of the coolest, geekiest products around. From arc reactors to Zelda, they carry shirts, games, toys, office & kitchen supplies…& they get a lot of my money.
Sweet & Sara Vegan marshmallows! All hand-made & amazing. So good, life-long carnivores love them.
Vegan Essentials Don’t let the name scare you off! While all the products are vegan, it’s also a good source for cruelty-free beauty supplies, clothing & more. And as a vegetarian, I can get hard-to-find things like veg-friendly (meaning, no gelatin) glucosamine.
Historical/Steampunk Emporium Victorian & steampunk-inspired clothes, from individual pieces to full outfits.
Daddy-O’s Really fun, retro-styled clothes for both women & men. Casual & formal. Shoes & other accessories, too!
Hips and Curves As a gal with what you might call an ‘ample bosom’, finding under-things that not only fit well but also lift & separate can be a challenge. Until I found this place. The standard for larger-sized bras tends towards the ‘that’s so ugly…’ ‘how ugly is it?’ side, so it’s nice to find some that not only work, but also prevent ‘I can’t believe he/she saw me in this!’ moments.

So, I just ordered this nifty tote bag from Ming Doyle.
Yep. My next grocery run? I’ll be all styin’ & stuff.
(hint, turhansbeycompany, hint)

This nifty Batman bracelet
